Serve Locally, Impact Globally Since the launch of Rise Against Hunger’s meal packaging program in 2005, Rotarians have packaged 30 million+ meals for distribution around the globe. Rotary is a critical link to helping Rise Against Hunger meet the United Nations goal of ending world hunger by 2030. Rotarians are known for achieving ambitious goals, evidenced by Rotary International’s success with its eradication of polio initiative. Rotarians have now packaged meals with Rise Against Hunger in 11 countries including South Africa, Malaysia, Philippines, Italy, India, Peru, Australia and South Korea.
These packaged meals are used primarily to support school feeding programs in developing countries. Hunger is the common thread among the world’s most challenging issues. Targeting hunger — specifically by supporting school feeding programs — leverages support to other causes including poverty, disease, education, and the welfare of women and children.
The assembly process combines rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and a flavoring mix including 23 essential vitamins and minerals into small meal packages. These meal packages are shipped around the world to support school feeding programs and crisis relief.
Help Stop Hunger at Home
In addition to packing meals for global distribution, we’ll be collecting nonperishable items for donation to our local Santa Barbara County Food Bank. The Food Bank distributes foods that encourage health. When donating food, please help provide these most needed items:
Whole Grains:
Vegetarian Proteins
Animal Proteins:
Fruits and vegetables:
Other Nutritious Items:

All, A continuation of the great Old Town Goleta beautification efforts! Bring gardenging gloves, large, full water bottles, your favorite coffee thermos (plastic bottles and paper cups are usually supplied...but reusable is better), and all the green thumbs you can muster! There will be yummy breakfast, good coffee, and snacks, which always helps my green thumb! It would also be appreciated if you could bring a kitchen sized hard plastic trash can if you have one, or similar sized reusable bin (we will have larger green waste bins you can empty it into). We are trying to avoid the hassle and waste of the plastic trash bags. |
